Is William Hill legal in Sri Lanka?

No. Real-money gambling is banned in Sri Lanka. Under Sri Lanka's Gambling Regulatory Authority Act of 2025, in force since 1 December 2025, in force since 2025, William Hill cannot lawfully offer you a welcome bonus here, and you cannot lawfully claim one.

Sri Lanka legalised online betting rather than banning it - but only through operators licensed by the new Gambling Regulatory Authority, which took effect on 1 December 2025 and was intended to be fully operational by 30 June 2026. A licence from the Director-General is mandatory, applicants must be companies registered under Sri Lanka's Companies Act, and a specific digital gambling licence is required to operate online. The other half of that law is why you see no offer here: unlicensed offshore betting sites are explicitly illegal, and the Authority can block them and penalise both the operators and anyone promoting them. We cannot evidence that the operators we cover hold a Sri Lankan digital gambling licence, so we will not point you at one as though we could. If you are in Sri Lanka, check the Authority's own list of licensees rather than trusting any affiliate site, including this one. (Sources cite the Act as both No. 16 and No. 17 of 2025; we report that discrepancy rather than guess which is right.) source

Any William Hill bonus you see advertised for Sri Lanka is offered from an offshore site operating against local law. Your payments can be blocked, your account can vanish with a mirror domain, and no Sri Lanka regulator can help you recover funds. We therefore show no offer and no sign-up link on this page. Our verdict

DUPLICATE RECORD. We published William Hill twice under two slugs and gave it two different scores - 8.4 here and 6.8 on our main record. That is our error, not a difference in the bookmaker. This page now carries the same assessment as the main review, which is grounded in the operator's actual regulatory record: WHG (International) Limited paid GBP 12.5 million of a record GBP 19.2 million UK settlement in March 2023. William Hill is one of the oldest and most recognisable bookmakers in the world, founded in 1934 and now part of 888 Holdings following the 2022 acquisition of its non-US assets from Caesars Entertainment. It holds genuine UKGC (39225) and Italian ADM (16044) licences and offers a full sportsbook, in-play betting and casino product. However, its regulatory history includes a documented GBP 19.2 million UKGC fine in 2018 for social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failings, and Trustpilot sentiment is genuinely mixed, with a real, recurring pattern of complaints about accounts being restricted or closed for successful bettors. If you're in the UK, Ireland or Italy, William Hill is a long-established, genuinely licensed option — just be aware of its historical compliance record and the account-restriction complaints before relying on it for consistent long-term betting.

How we rated it

Sportsbook & casino (25%)7.8

One of the longest-established sportsbooks in the world (since 1934), with deep market coverage, in-play betting, and a full casino/Vegas product under the same account.

Mobile & UX (10%)7.3

Mature, well-built platform reflecting nine decades of operating history and significant technology investment.

Bonuses & value (15%)7

Clear, regulator-compliant welcome offers across UK, Ireland and Italy, including a UKGC-standard 'bet & get' free bets structure and an ADM-compliant Italian package.

Trust & licensing (20%)6

Genuine UKGC (39225) and Italian ADM (16044) licensing under the established 888 Holdings group, but with a documented history of UK regulatory fines, most notably a GBP 19.2 million UKGC penalty in 2018 for social responsibility and AML failings. Held at this level deliberately now that the record is documented rather than assumed: operator WHG (International) Limited paid GBP 12.5 million of a record GBP 19.2 million settlement in March 2023, including letting 331 self-excluded customers gamble and taking a GBP 19,000 single bet without source-of-funds checks. A large, long-established, properly licensed bookmaker - and one the regulator came close to suspending.

Customer support (10%)6

Generally responsive for routine queries, but account-restriction disputes are a recurring theme in negative reviews with limited recourse for affected users.

Payments & payouts (20%)5.5

Real, recurring complaints on Trustpilot about accounts being restricted or closed after a run of successful bets ('gubbing'), plus some reports of slow document verification during withdrawals.

Who owns William Hill?

William Hill is part of Evoke plc, the group formerly known as 888 Holdings, which acquired it in 2022 and also owns 888 and Mr Green. In 2026 a further acquisition of Evoke by Bally's and Intralot was announced.

What is William Hill best for?

Its sportsbook — especially UK and Irish horse racing, where it offers Best Odds Guaranteed, plus deep football markets across 35+ sports. It also runs a full casino, poker and bingo.

Does William Hill accept crypto?

No. William Hill uses regulated local payment methods — cards, e-wallets and bank transfer — rather than cryptocurrency.
