A UK spread betting and fixed-odds sportsbook

Context for United Kingdom: Since 19 January 2026 the Gambling Commission has capped wagering requirements at 10x the bonus (Social Responsibility Code 5.1.1), and promotions may no longer combine product types such as sports and casino in one offer. If a bonus on this page states 35x, 50x or higher, that figure predates the cap or does not reflect the operator's current UK terms - check the live terms on site, and treat any UK offer still advertising above 10x with caution.
Here is the current Sporting Index welcome offer for players in United Kingdom. Bonus terms change and are set by Sporting Index for each market — always confirm the live offer on its own site. See every licensed betting site in United Kingdom →
Pros
- A real, sizeable bet-and-get offer: bet £10, get £60
- Offers both spread betting and fixed-odds products, a distinctive combination
- Generous 28-day window to use free bets
Cons
- Spread betting carries different risk characteristics than fixed-odds betting — new users should read the format carefully
- Local licensing details not independently confirmed
- The CMA required Spreadex to SELL Sporting Index after finding the November 2023 acquisition would substantially lessen competition
- Ownership is therefore in flux - a regulator-ordered divestiture was still resolving, with Star Sports having signalled interest in the assets
Our verdict
Sporting Index offers something genuinely distinctive - licensed sports spread betting alongside fixed odds - but the most useful thing we can tell you is that its ownership is being forcibly unwound. Spreadex bought Sporting Index in November 2023. The Competition and Markets Authority then investigated, and in its Phase 2 decision published in November 2024 found that the deal would substantially lessen competition, effectively creating a monopoly in the licensed online sports spread betting market. The CMA concluded that no behavioural remedy would work and that divestiture was the only effective one: Spreadex was required to sell Sporting Index. Star Sports publicly signalled interest in acquiring assets in September 2024. Why this matters to you rather than to lawyers: a required sale means the company holding your balance, setting the terms and answering complaints may not be the company you signed up with. That is worth knowing before you deposit, and it is exactly what our previous version - built on a single affiliate page - failed to tell anyone.
How we rated it
Sportsbook (36%)8
A genuine spread betting operator, distinct from a typical fixed-odds-only bookmaker, offering both products.
Bonuses & value (18%)8
A real, sizeable bet-and-get offer: bet £10, get £60 in free bets.
Customer support (18%)7
No major documented complaint pattern found.
Trust & licensing (27%)6
UK-market operator; verify current licence status directly. Marked down for ownership uncertainty rather than misconduct. Spreadex acquired Sporting Index in November 2023; the CMA's Phase 2 decision of November 2024 found the deal would substantially lessen competition and effectively create a monopoly in licensed online sports spread betting, and concluded the only effective remedy was for Spreadex to SELL Sporting Index. Star Sports signalled interest in acquiring assets in September 2024. A business under a regulator-ordered divestiture has an owner in flux, which is worth knowing before you open an account or leave funds in one.

About Sporting Index
Sporting Index is a UK spread betting operator offering both fixed-odds and spread bets - and its ownership is unresolved in a way that matters if you are deciding where to hold a balance. Spreadex acquired it in November 2023, after which the Competition and Markets Authority intervened. In its Phase 2 decision published in November 2024, the CMA found the deal would substantially lessen competition and would in effect create a monopoly in licensed online sports spread betting, concluding that the only effective remedy was divestiture: Spreadex was REQUIRED TO SELL Sporting Index. Star Sports publicly signalled interest in September 2024. Our previous rating came from a single affiliate page and conveyed none of this.
Sporting Index FAQ
Is Sporting Index safe and legit?
Sporting Index is a spread betting and fixed-odds sportsbook active in the UK market. Verify current licence status directly. No major scandal was found during this research.
What is the Sporting Index welcome bonus?
Bet GBP 10, get GBP 60 in free bets, minimum odds 1.5, applicable to fixed and spread bets, valid for 28 days.
Who owns Sporting Index?
That is unsettled, and deliberately so. Spreadex acquired Sporting Index in November 2023. The Competition and Markets Authority investigated and, in its Phase 2 decision published in November 2024, found the deal would substantially lessen competition and effectively create a monopoly in the licensed online sports spread betting market. The CMA concluded that the only effective remedy was for Spreadex to sell Sporting Index, and Star Sports publicly signalled interest in acquiring assets in September 2024. If you are choosing where to hold a balance, a business under a regulator-ordered sale is a fact worth weighing.
