Wazobet welcome bonus in Nigeria

Context for Nigeria: Nigeria changed who licenses betting, and the old answer is still the one most sites give you. On 22 November 2024 the Supreme Court nullified the National Lottery Act 2005 in its entirety, holding that the National Assembly had no constitutional power to legislate on lotteries and games of chance - these are residual matters belonging to the STATES. The practical consequence is that the National Lottery Regulatory Commission is no longer the nationwide authority: its remit is now limited to the Federal Capital Territory, and an NLRC licence issued before the ruling is not a valid basis for multi-state operation. So if an operator's footer, or an affiliate page, offers 'NLRC licensed' as proof it is legal where you live, that assurance is out of date. What counts now is a licence from YOUR state's gaming regulator, or a Universal Reciprocity Certificate from the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria (FSGRN) - and the URC only covers FSGRN member states, of which there are around 22, so a significant number of states sit outside it entirely. Betting itself remains legal in Nigeria; it is the paperwork that moved. Some legal uncertainty is still unresolved, including what regularisation means for operators licensed under the old federal regime, so check your own state's regulator before you treat any licence claim as settled.

Nigeria changed who licenses betting in November 2024

On 22 November 2024 the Supreme Court of Nigeria, in Attorney General of Lagos State & Ors v Attorney General of the Federation & Ors (Suit No. SC/1/2008), unanimously nullified the National Lottery Act 2005. A seven-member panel held that the National Assembly had no power to legislate on lotteries and games of chance, so the Act - and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission it created - now applies only within the Federal Capital Territory. Regulating betting elsewhere in Nigeria is exclusively a matter for state governments.

What that means when you read any Nigerian review, including ours: an NLRC licence number no longer establishes, on its own, that an operator is authorised in your state. Many of our Nigerian pages still describe licensing in NLRC terms because that was the framework when they were written, and we are working through them. Check your own state regulator's list - for example the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority - before you deposit.

Pros

  • 110% up to NGN 55,000 with only a NGN 100 minimum deposit
  • 5x rollover is genuinely low by Nigerian market standards
  • Named Lagos operating company, Emerald Bet International Limited
  • Nigerian review sites report 12-24 hour withdrawals consistently
  • NGN 50 minimum bet - accessible for small stakes

Cons

  • The 5x must be cleared on accumulators of 4+ selections at minimum odds 1.35 - we previously omitted this
  • No entry found on the Lagos LSLGA list or the FCT register, so the licence is reported rather than verified
  • The Curacao number is in the legacy master-licence format being replaced by the LOK reform
  • Nigeria only

Our verdict

Wazobet is run by Emerald Bet International Limited of Apapa, Lagos, and its selling point is a genuinely generous entry: 110% of your first deposit up to NGN 55,000, on a minimum deposit of NGN 100, with a minimum bet of NGN 50. Nigerian review sites consistently report withdrawals landing within 12 to 24 hours. The rollover is where our earlier version was incomplete, and the omission flattered the offer. We wrote '5x on accumulator bets - notably low'. The 5x is real and it is low. What we left out is that it must be cleared on accumulators of at least FOUR selections, each priced at 1.35 or better. A 5x you can clear on singles and a 5x that forces you into four-folds are different products, and only the first deserves the word 'notably'. On licensing we can report but not confirm. Sources give a Lagos State Lotteries Board licence running to 7 December 2026 and a Curacao number, 8048/JAZ2019-019. We read the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority's own published operator list and the FCT Lottery Regulation Office register on the same day, and found no entry for Wazobet or Emerald Bet International on either. That is not evidence against the operator - the LSLB and LSLGA are related but distinct Lagos bodies and their lists may not be interchangeable - but it does mean the licence remains reported rather than verified by us. One more thing worth knowing: that Curacao number is in the legacy master-licence format that Curacao's LOK reform has been replacing, so it should not be read as a current Curacao Gaming Authority licence without a check of its own.

How we rated it

Bonuses & value (18%)7.6

110% up to NGN 55,000 on a NGN 100 minimum deposit is generous, and 5x really is low. Cut from 8.5 because we had omitted the condition that makes it harder than it sounds: the rollover must be cleared on accumulators of at least four selections, each at minimum odds of 1.35. Low multiplier, compulsory four-fold.

Sportsbook (36%)7.5

A sportsbook active in the Nigerian market.

Trust & licensing (27%)7.4

A named Lagos operating company, Emerald Bet International Limited of Apapa, with a Lagos State Lotteries Board licence reported to run to 7 December 2026. Held here because we could not confirm it ourselves: the brand does not appear on the Lagos LSLGA published operator list, nor on the FCT register, both of which we read on the same day. Its Curacao number is also in the legacy master-licence format the LOK reform is replacing.

Customer support (18%)7

Nigerian review sites consistently report withdrawals landing in 12-24 hours and responsive support, which is more specific than most such coverage, but it is still affiliate description rather than independent evidence.

How we verified this

Bonus mechanics taken from several independent Nigerian review sites rather than the single one the original review used, which is how the four-fold requirement surfaced. Licensing claims checked against two regulator lists we can read - Lagos LSLGA and the FCT LRO - and reported as unconfirmed where neither shows an entry, without treating that absence as evidence against the operator.

About Wazobet

Wazobet is a Nigerian sportsbook operated by Emerald Bet International Limited of Apapa, Lagos. Its offer is 110% of a first deposit up to NGN 55,000 on a minimum deposit of NGN 100, and the 5x rollover really is low by Nigerian standards - but read the condition attached to it, which our earlier version omitted: it must be cleared on accumulators of at least FOUR selections, each at minimum odds of 1.35. A low multiplier tied to a compulsory four-fold is a different product from one you can clear on singles. On licensing we report rather than confirm: sources give a Lagos State Lotteries Board licence to 7 December 2026 and Curacao 8048/JAZ2019-019, but we found no entry on either the Lagos LSLGA list or the FCT LRO register, both read the same day. That Curacao number is also in the legacy master-licence format the island's LOK reform has been replacing.

Wazobet FAQ

Is Wazobet safe and legit?

It is operated by Emerald Bet International Limited of Apapa, Lagos, and sources report a Lagos State Lotteries Board licence to 7 December 2026 plus a Curacao number. We could not confirm either ourselves: the brand is not on the Lagos LSLGA published list or the FCT register, both of which we checked. That is a gap in our verification rather than a finding against the operator.

What is the Wazobet welcome bonus?

110% of your first deposit up to NGN 55,000, with a minimum deposit of NGN 100. The rollover is 5x, which is low - but it must be cleared on accumulators of at least four selections, each at odds of 1.35 or better, so it is harder than the multiplier alone suggests.
