Gambling is not lawful in Taiwan

Under Article 266 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of China, in force since 14 January 2022, real-money gambling is prohibited here, so an offer aimed at Taiwan comes from an offshore operator working against local law. Taiwan criminalises the gambler, not only the operator. In December 2021 the Legislative Yuan amended Article 266 to make it explicitly a crime to gamble via telecommunications equipment, electronic devices, the internet or any similar method, closing the argument that a restricted-access site is not a 'place open to the public'. The maximum criminal fine rose from TWD 30,000 to TWD 50,000. Offshore sites that solicit Taiwanese residents in traditional Chinese have been pursued under Articles 266 and 268.
